ABOUT THE TOUR

A continuous up and down through splendid trails and country Tuscan roads, the ancient paths used by farmers for their work, in the middle of original and unique landscapes dotted with parishes, farm houses, secret spots, amazing views and a forever-changing horizon.

Departure from Fiesole main square. Through a countryside made up of olive trees and vineyards we will reach the Convent of Montesenario, right where the Apennines originate.

A short distance of 15 km separates the two places, which share a history of 2500 years. The ancient founders of Fiesole, the Etruscans, were deeply bound to the territory, and mountains were sacred to them.
From Fiesole, in proximity of the ruins of an Etruscan temple, the eye can catch in a glimpse the whole of Mugnone valley, a real natural amphitheatre, limited on the North by a dorsal with the highest mountain standing out from the background: our goal, Montesenario.

This mountain was named “Eiser” or “Aiser” by the Etruscans and probably meaning “God”. Here sky and earth look as one and is one of the best panoramic views over Tuscany!

Back to Fiesole for a different road.

IDEAL FOR

The bike tour is definitely recommended to anyone looking to explore the area around Florence! You’ll be amazed to discover that the Tuscan countryside is just a few steps away from the city, and to figure out how everything here is bound to a remote language.

Recommended for those who bike regularly and are comfortable cycling a hilly terrain with some longer and more challenging climbs.

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL TASTING

All the bike tours include, without any additional cost, a brief stop at a traditional Tuscan olive oil and wine farm to taste and eat bread and excellent local extra virgin olive oil, as is tradition ever since I was a child, making the places you are visiting even more extraordinary and your bike tour a true local experience. Purchase (and shipping) of olive oil and Chianti wine is available from the farm.
