ABOUT THE TOUR

This is mostly a downhill and flat bike tour, leading from the Convent of Montesenario (on top of the mountain, 2680 ft asl and one of the best panoramic views over Tuscany) to the city centre of Florence, through the stunning countryside of Fiesole.

Florence Cathedral and its towering Dome are at the centre of the journey and our final destination.

First we’ll encounter the century-old fir trees that guard an ancient hermitage and the wide slopes of Mugello with the Apennines in the background; then the olive trees, the cypresses and the unique rural landscape of the hills of Fiesole.
A pattern of farmlands and woods dotted with rural houses and bell towers display different colors according to the season, from green and grey to yellow, orange and brown.

You will let yourself be wrapped by the charming Tuscan landscape and will admire the perfection of the countryside similar to a garden. When in Florence, safely, we will follow the cycle path along the Arno river, which takes us into the heart of the city, where eventually we can see at first hand what we had been admiring from afar.

At the beginning of the bike trip we’ll do a brief stop at a local traditional Tuscan farm to taste and eat Tuscan bread and excellent local extra virgin olive oil.

ONE WAY ITINERARY

After the tour, all participants will return to their respective places by INDEPENDENT MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION. Ask for information on bus routes. It’s easy and cheaper!

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL AND WINE TASTING

All the bike tours include, without any additional cost, a brief stop at a traditional Tuscan olive oil and wine farm: Fattoria di Montereggi. You will taste and eat bread and excellent local extra virgin olive oil, as is tradition ever since I was a child, and a glass of red house wine (a "gottin di vino"), making the places you are visiting even more extraordinary and your bike tour a true local experience. Purchase (and shipping) of olive oil and Chianti wine is available from the farm.

MEETING POINT

Departure from Fiesole, Piazza Mino da Fiesole, bus terminal ATAF number 7.
Fiesole is a village just outside of Florence, 6 km (3.7 mi) distance from the city center, and it's very convenient to get to by public bus from downtown.
From Florence center (Largo Alinari map link) to go to Fiesole and reach our meeting point with public transportation it’s easy, cheap, ecologically-friendly, for certain itineraries it is even mandatory and therefore all itineraries are scheduled according to public transport timetables
